"Yes, I'll order you a program from a company called Rosetta Stone."
"Oh Wow! That's just what I wanted."
"Um, how did you know about Rosetta Stone?"
"I read about it in The Atlantic."

Ummkay. Then he goes on.
"Yeah, and the Rosetta Stone, originally, was a tablet that was inscribed in three different languages -Roman, Greek, and I forget what else- that was used to decipher Egyptian Hieroglyphics."
We had a tough day, people. This little conversation was a real bright spot. And I offer it here to anyone who thinks I'm nuts when I say certain things, such as: I don't care if my son is behind in math. I offer this as a glimpse of interest driven learning.

Mine was when my daughter (7) was playing with her brother (5) in the backseat of the minivan saying "I can't see! It's dark! I must use echolocation!" as she threw something at him! I was so proud!
