Well now, you just never know what's going to happen when you wake up in the morning. Yesterday we drove way out into the country (keeping in mind we LIVE in the country) to pick up a puppy. He is an honest to goodness Walker Coon Hound. He is one of a litter of seven, bred by a man who intended to keep them all and hunt them. But this man has lost his job and can no longer keep up nine dogs. So the puppies must go. The man cried when we left. Which, as sad as that is, made me happy. This was no puppy mill. This dog was not for sale, he just needs a good home. We are wealthy with good home, so we went and got him. We chose this puppy almost entirely for his bray. He has the cutest, richest, most hound-dog bort you've ever heard. I explained to the children, on the way there, that we would be looking for the most active, alert, curious, and happy puppy of the lot. As darling and compelling as the shy ones can seem, we are selecting for self confidence and good attitude. He was as easy to spot as he was to hear. His parents were sweet and laid back. EVERYONE raised a ruckus when we arrived. But within a few moments, all was quiet. These are not yippee dogs. These are hardworking, intelligent, composed, thoughtful, SMART dogs. Dogs known for their loyalty and forbearance with children.

We are thrilled with this little fellow. He is four months old. So, we are raising another baby. And we need a name. Sweetie, Little Boy, Snoopy, and Spot have all been suggested. Until we settle on that perfect name, we are content to get to know him and shower him with love and work on potty training...oh, again with the potty training. Yes, we do have a baby in the house.

I suggest a dignified name. Our dogs are females--a lhasa-poo named Sidney and a Newfoundland named Samantha.

Your dog looks like a Steve to me.

Or is there a character from your kids' books that he reminds them of? Or a place they love? We had a crazy, big-hearted boy for almost 14 years named Spooner after the lake.

Sweetie and all that works now cause he is such a precious baby. But as you say, he's going to grow up to be a partner around your place. It's like naming a baby, isn't it, lol. love, V

Lyssa suggests "Baxter"

I don't know, but I really really LOVE puppies and now I want one.

But I can't have one until Maggie goes to dog heaven, and I don't want that to happen for a long time so I guess I won't have a puppy any time soon.
