This has been one of the longest sweetest dampest springs I can ever remember in The Old North State. And we have been busy. The garden, the chicks, the children are all growing by leaps in the damp green misty air. We putter and tend. (We eye the rock wall and find something else to do.) Lavender planted three years ago is, kapow! A knock out now. The humming birds are busy there.

Ry, Belinda, and I spent an afternoon in curlers, listening to 1950s cowgirl music, and making our own skirts. All from insanely loud pink peony print cotton. History lesson for today, make your own clothes, think of Laura and Mary. The following week we visited a local graveyard and made rubbings. Henry said, "As close as you can get to an autograph." We sat imagining the bones of the people right under our feet. And Henry's comment brought history careening out of the 1800s and right into our warm hands which smelled like crayons.

And fruit is coming in now. The first basket of peaches, an early morning breakfast. Henry is learning to create web pages. And he is studying music. He sits memorizing lyrics and genres. Its kind of amazing to watch him discover this world. He approaches the whole thing like a student. If he had a field guide for rock and roll, he would have memorized it by now.

The curler pictures are lovely and your afternoon sounds really fun. I'd love to see pics of the skirts. Could your daughter be any more gorgeous?

Grave rubbings, autographs from the dead. Your clever boy getting an amazing education. :)

Thanks y'all. Henry's web page is not online right now. And I'm thinking about wearing my skirt to my sister's wedding in two weeks, so I don't want to publish a picture yet. It was odd and fun to wear curlers that day. In the picture, we are still wearing them. When we took them out, what do you know? They worked! Fun In Girltown :)

Would Henry be interested in writing such a filed guide? Sounds like a tremendous idea!
