Funny thing about unschool, often you don't know what they are dreaming up. Today while I was surfing online, feeling inspired by Poppins' new sewing project and chatting with her about that, Riley was in her room stitching away. The sewing machine she got from Santa kind of sucks. She needs a real machine and this underscores my belief that we learn best when we are given excellent tools, real tools. But this didn't stop her. She decided to hand stitch, which I often prefer myself. She made a dress for Baby Jenna. And then she was delighted to find that it fit Kaya too. She designed and stitched this all by herself. I was in another room THINKING of sewing. Hum, maybe I am on the computer too much. Or maybe she didn't need me at all. I love the fabric, the cut, and the buttons. Ry takes after her Grandmother!

Riley, that is such a GREAT outfit you made! Jenna looks very happy in it, and so does Kaya. How cool! Way to go.

Hey Riley! My daughter really likes hand sewing too! I have written twice about it: http://eclecticallyyours.blogspot.com/2008/01/martha-stewart-younger.html

and just today! (http://eclecticallyyours.blogspot.com/2008/01/picture-to-go-with-previous-post.html)

I am impressed with the use of buttons, particularly. Keep up the good work with handsewing.
