Things Done or Nearly Done

So, we have been decorating. The process has been strangely emotional for me. I had a psychological block about REALLY setting up shop here in this little house that we think just may become our permanent place. We've never lived in a house we thought we might keep forever. And maybe the weight of that thought was holding me back. I know, among other things, that I have gotten so used to scraping by that it has become a philosophy. We are the people who scrape. But, guess what, we can loosen up a tiny bit. We can expand. We can set an intentional tone here. We are not people who scrape. We are people who want to nurture. We begin now with our little nest. Guess what, also? It matters very very much to the children, I have discovered. They care about our nest. They LOVE the new vibe. They have no concern or care for pretension, frivolity, waste. The children, I think, feel ensconced here. It feels like we INTEND to be here, and stay here, and love here, and learn here. Certainly, that's worth a financial pinch and some elbow grease. Just look at my precious little settee up there in the big window in my kitchen. A warm place to knit while lunch is prepared....

Here is what my fabulous designer from Houston had to say about our process: "Super duper deal on the door... letting in a little light will make your hallway glow. And what's better than money well spent? It's what you work for. And, as a professional nester myself, when I invest it in my surroundings it's as good as therapy. Or better. Depending on the therapist."

And she also wrote a hiku for good measure:

Now I've seen your soul
each room touched by Goddess hands
All who come see Love

How lovely! I've often felt that there's no use in decorating because hopefully we'll be moving to a better house. But kids always see the current house as home, not a stop on the way to something better. Maybe I should see it that way, too.

Love the pictures especially the moon on the wall! WOW. When I grow up I want to be you! :)

Thanks, I think what you may actually mean, Shirleyhill, is that when you grow up you want to be my decorator. : )

So fab! Love the yellow. You know I'm all about the yellow.

And living intentionally is huge. Living as though you're worth having nice surroundings, is important. It's practically my credo.
