Paint this house. What colors? What curtains? What next? I am finally admitting that, while I am a fairly creative gal, I am not an interior decorator. And I want warmth and cohesion in this quirky crowded little house. Yes, I am asking for suggestions. Tips. Ideas. Thoughts. Advice. Help. It is time to ask for help. Help please.

Adivce? Here it comes....if you have an open style house, pick a color that won't be the primary color(of the walls) but can tie it altogether. Like blue...blue is pillow on the sofa, blue in the china in the kitchen, etc. Also if you are not scared of warm colors I can see a light sage or a light terracotta color in your kitchen especially against your cabinetry. Sage would might look nice in your living area as well...
Good luck.
Okay, I am a HUGE lover of color. I think that so many people are scared of it. But it excites me and soothes me and inspires me. The house I owned and decorated before the rental I am now in was Red, Yellow, white trim and orange (kids room) Sage and hunter greens were the accent that tied all rooms together. Mix and match. Stripes and checks. You knit right? Be inspired by your patterns past and future! Be wild 'cause in the end who wants House Beautiful?? And the bottom line: It's just paint. It's just decor...don't sweat it and have fun.

P.S. I wish I had a REAL house again so I"ll have to live vicariously thru your project...
Go for the warm colors! I love blue, but on the walls it can make a room feel cold and stark. Terracotta is a great idea, or any warm sunset shade of yellow. And sage or something else in the pale green family is really lovely for a living room or bedroom. Not that I'm any kind of expert. But I have thought about these things a bit.
Let me just say, what a beautifully NEAT house you have!
It's odd to ask for help in this way. And odder still that these suggestions actually help. But they so very much do! Thank you. Keep 'em coming. They are feeding me and giving me permission. How strange that a strong grown gal like myself needs permission. Somehow, I do. So, thanks Moms! : )K
I'm clueless on paint, but is that a Mission style chair? I've been looking for Mission furniture online, but the costs are amazingly high.
I'm really no expert on this (I have tns of cream walls, the worst color in the worls; it shows evry mark), the one truly painted room is DS's. He's 5 and picked out the color at 4. Two others are in various stages.
I just thought I would point out that your daughter's shirt (in the post) has all the colors people discussed (and is great). I think the terra cotta would be great. You have a lot of sage furniture, so it might overwelm, accents of blue and yellow. Check out her shirt.
Only one room in my house has been painted a non off-white color. My kitchen is a sage green and I really like it. I've always liked red, though. Whenever I see a room with a red wall or entirely in red, I like it so much. But I don't have the nerve to do it. Terracotta sounds nice, too. It's red enough to be warm and bold, but not scary.
Now see the thing is, I want to paint the kitchen a cheerful bright deep raspberry color. And the rest of the house in apricot and palest yellow. Then tied in with all the sage furniture. But I am the only one who see it that way. And the house has a TINY foot print. So all these little rooms do need to be tied together somehow. If it got too loud or too dark - that would be bad.
And I am so so so so sick of blue rooms. The stark white is not cutting it either. I need to NEST here. One thing I see for sure, with all this square angular furniture, we need soft voluptuous long drapes. That will warms things up. (Dreaming here - not thinking about cost now.)
Fourmother, me too on the red!
