The Homeschool Science Fair is happening in early May and the children are hard at work on their experiments. Dear daughter is keeping an observational notebook about the habitat in which we live. When she sees a new creature arrive in our habitat, she runs to note the name and date in her log. I was looking for pictures of these creatures online so I can print them for her. She will then color and paste them into her notebook.

While surfing unsuccessfully for "printable, kid, pileated" I found this little poem. My grandmother used to sing this to me. I can see her face and hear her voice. I feel her sheets and the sunlight coming in the window in the morning. She slept in a pink room. I am waking up in that room to the sound of this little poem as she comes upstairs for me. Until yesterday, this memory was gone. It has returned to my mental habitat.

Once I saw a little bird
Come hop hop hop
And I cried, "Little bird,
Will you stop, stop, stop?"

I was going to the window
To say, "How do you do?"
When he shook his little tail
and away he flew.
