Human beings differ profoundly in regard to the tendency to view their lives as a whole. To some it is natural to do so, and essential to happiness.... To others life is a series of detached incidents without directed movement and without unity. The habit of viewing life as a whole is an essential part of wisdom...and is one of the things which ought to be encouraged in education. Consistent purpose is not enough to make life happy, but it is almost an indispensable condition of a happy life. And consistent purpose embodies itself mainly in work. ~Bertrand Russell

I never made any real progress as someone who could rightly be called a grown up until I began to view my life as one whole, connected, and unified event. As in the first picture I posted, I am moving in a direction. I am not on a well defined path but I am moving forward. Today I am going to remember this. Today I will mention this to the children. If it is true that we can move forward more powerfully when our thoughts, our feelings, and our actions all match and consistently carry our truth, better to tell the children now. What better way to think of your education, than as your life's work begun in childhood, setting yourself firmly faced forward and determined to keep moving.
